Why do we support Andover Airfield Business Park?
As residents of Andover we are in favour of the Andover Airfield Business Park proposal because:
It brings millions of pound of investment to the town (a £120 million development) particularly important whilst the UK economy looks pretty shaky
Brings over 2,000 good jobs into the town of all kinds of levels and skills - again at a time of growing concern about the next few years for the economy
More money in the pockets of workers from in and around Andover will help the economy of Andover
There will likely be all sorts of contractors who will also benefit from the business park directly, whether it's maintaining landscaping or supplying IT services to some of the different businesses on the site
It brings much needed quality office space not only for bigger businesses to use, but also for small and up-and-coming business such as high-tech start-ups
It will put Andover on the map as a decent place to do business and helps ensure Andover has a bright future
Puts a genuine business park and commercial generator for the town on the airfield site - a site that nobody has shown any genuine interest in for 20 years
Brings local Skills Training worth £1/2 (half) million - really useful as not everybody in Andover will get to go to University
Brings massive improvements to the Hundred Acre Interchange that is currently over capacity
Makes sure that all the local roads aren't used as rat runs
We at Go! do not claim to be the experts on the whole range of technical issues that are part of big planning applications. Therefore we feel that it is best to listen to the experts on the various issues. What is clear is that the professional people who are meant to take a view on the application have all said that it is an acceptable development, particularly with the various safeguards and concessions that the developer will put in place.
After exhaustive scrutiny both the Highways Agency and Hampshire County Council have said that the traffic from the development could be accommodated on the roads, with the appropriate improvements to the Hundred Acre Interchange.
Planning officers at Test Valley Council, after months of examining the detail, have recommended the application for approval.
The proposed development is still going through Test Valley Borough Council’s planning process. If you are part of a silent majority in Andover which supports investment in our future, then it is imperative that your support is demonstrated to the council.
